📍Macau slaps ban on import of single-use plastic cutlery

Following the introduction of the "Restriction on the Provision of Plastic Bags" law, the ban on the import and transfer of disposable styrofoam tableware and non-degradable plastic disposable straws and drink stirrers, the Macau government announced on 5 September that it will further introduce new environmental measures.

Lately, the Macau government has declared that the import of non-biodegradable disposable plastic knives, forks, and spoons will be prohibited beginning on January 1, 2023, in order to safeguard the environmental quality and undertake plastic reduction measures in a systematic manner. The local environmental protection department will hold a briefing session for the industry to explain the scope of control and the specific operational requirements to ensure the effective implementation of the measure.
