1st Macau Model United Nations Conference
It aims to provide an international platform for secondary school students from Macau and the region to develop their strengths, explore and analyse current affairs and international issues, broaden their international perspectives, develop their critical thinking skills, and enhance their leadership skills. It is also hoped that this event will enhance the academic and community involvement of the Model United Nations in Macao.

The Macau Model United Nations Promotion Association organized the "1st Macau Secondary School Student Model United Nations Conference" online from the 1st to the 3rd of this month. A total of 120 middle school students from 30 middle schools in Macau, Hong Kong, Mainland China and Taiwan participated.
The event is co-organized by the Language Exchange and Cultural Promotion Association, the Geography and Education Research Association, the Food and Environmental Health Society, and supported by the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, the European Studies Society, the Oral History Association and the Professionals and Graduating Students' Lecture Hall. The event aims to build an international platform for secondary school students to give full play to their strengths, broaden their international perspectives, cultivate critical thinking skills, enhance students' team spirit and leadership skills through exploring and analyzing world current affairs and international issues, and hope to enhance the academic atmosphere and social participation of the "Model United Nations" in Macao through the event.
The conference will be held in three venues, including the United Nations Social Human Rights and Culture Committee's meeting on the use of cultural heritage to promote sustainable development (English), the International Olympic Committee's meeting on the site selection for the 2032 Summer Olympics (Cantonese) and the United Nations Security Council's meeting on the protection of civilians in armed conflicts (Mandarin).
During the event, five "Haojing Elegant Collection" academic lectures and two opening and closing speeches were held, with themes covering sustainable development, cultural conservation, language research, war, and sharing of further education in various places.
The president of the European Studies Association, Mr. Michael Mak, gave an opening speech entitled "China-Europe Cooperation and Sustainable Development". Ms. Ho Suk-yee, the president of the Model United Nations Association and the secretary-general of the Model United Nations, hoped that the participants could turn sparks into flames and implement the association's purpose of "injecting world ideas into this place". In his closing speech, the president of the association, Mr. Li Yuhao, mentioned the spirit of consensus, unity and seeking common ground while reserving differences of the United Nations, and hoped that the delegates, as world citizens, would work together to improve the world.
Other guests at the opening and closing ceremonies included PolyU Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences and President of the Oral History Association, Mr Lam Fatt-chin; Vice-President of the Language Exchange and Cultural Promotion Association, Ms Wong Kwan-yee; Vice-Chairman of the Geography and Education Research Association, Mr Tam Tat-yin; President of the Food and Environmental Health Society, Mr O Hok-ming; and Vice-President of the Food and Environmental Health Society, Ms Lai Pui-kwan; Professional and Graduate Lectures Council President, Ms Wong Kwok-yu; and Research Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of International Studies, Ms Lee Chun-yin.
